Runway Rebel

Rick Genest,  AKA “Zombie Boy” is the icon for fashion house Thierry Mugler. The 26 year-old, punk rocker from Canada began his skeletal, tattoo transformation after a bout with depression following his brain tumor surgery. Shortly after that, he was discovered by Nicola Formichetti who happens to be the creative director for Thierry Mugler and Lady Gaga’s stylist. He gained instant notoriety when he appeared in Gaga’s music video, ‘Born This Way.’ His look is intriguing and designers everywhere are vying for his attention. He was recently seen in the front row of the DSquared Fashion Show in Milan. Rumor has it that he’s working on a music project and a contract with Universal.

He may look like a corpse, but this hot zombie can chase me through the night of the living dead anytime.

Best Dressed

Although Michelle Williams didn’t win for “Best Actress”, she definitely won “Best Dressed” in my book! The star looked perfect in her blood orange, Louis Vuitton, peplum gown. I love the diamond, bow pin at the side of her waist paired with a classic diamond choker by Forevermark. This look is stunning and she wears it well with her pixie hair cut and milky-white skin. She added just enough pop of color with her pink Bottega Veneta clutch. Well done Michelle, you owned the red carpet last night!

Crazy 8 Party

Crazy 8 Party
This is the perfect outfit for today. I’m getting ready to go to a “Crazy 8” birthday party for a good friend. Her son is turning 8, and it’s going to be awesome! The party starts at 1:26 and guests are encouraged to dress up in miss- matched outfits, backwards and inside-out shirts, and anything crazy! My son can’t wait to put his clothes on backwards with his green leprechaun hat and I’m reliving the ’80s with all of my mixed stripes and pops of neon. Since no party is complete without a giant container of cheese balls, I stopped by Target yesterday and stocked up. Let’s party!!!

Let’s Play Barbies

“Let’s play Barbies”, was my favorite thing to hear when I was growing up. My BFF and I would spend hours dressing Barbie in all of her outfits and setting up her entire world on my living room floor. And, it never failed, just when we had finished decorating Barbie’s Town House (we saved the best for last), my mom would yell from the kitchen, “OK girls, time to clean up!”

We would beg and plead, “Just 10 more minutes!” And depending on if we weren’t chasing my brothers around and screaming at them for ripping our doll heads off, we might get an extra 10 minutes to dress Barbie up for her camping trip.

(I often wonder if my fashion addiction started as early as three years old when I received  my first Barbie?)

During New York’s Fashion Week, Mattel created a larger-than-life Barbie Dream Closet to celebrate the launch of a new advertising campaign called “See What Happens When You Play With Barbie.” The 9,000 square foot closet had a three story shoe rack loaded with pink heels (360 to be exact) and real-life Barbie models. The campaign focuses on Barbie’s fashion credentials and the computer program allows you to design T-shirts and try on Barbie’s iconic wardrobe. The company also plans to start a clothing line that will be revealed on their BarbieWow website.

I have to admit that I will still be playing Barbies, only this time it will be from my iPad and no clean-up necessary.

Dress Up

Oscar Party

Oscar Party
With all of Hollywood (and a slice of Orange County) scrambling to prepare for the Oscars this Sunday, I’ve found myself behind the scenes creating wardrobe ensembles. And the award for “Best Outfit” goes to… “Oscar Party” by Julie Rasmussen. (This is my favorite look for anyone who is attending an after party or presenting at the ceremony.) Starring  Zac Posen’s satin-crepe, fishtail gown along with best supporting accessory, Sidney Garber’s gold and diamond bracelet.
“I’d like to thank my producer, Polyvore, for allowing me to create amazing outfits from the comfort of my own home.  I’d like to thank my agent, Roadkill Ranch & Boutique, for inspiring me daily to keep up with the fashion world. I’d like to thank Jimmy Choo for his ability to transform any, old outfit into a drop-dead, head-turning, look just by adding his shoes. And, I’d like to thank the Academy for believing in my work, and for allowing me to be a part of this honorable ceremony. God bless you all!”
(She holds up the golden man with her right hand and as the light bounces off of her Lucifer Vir Honestus coral and diamond ring, she exits stage left.)

I Wonder

Picture 9

Christopher Burch, a venture capitalist and ex-husband to the famous designer Tory Burch, has opened his flagship store in NY called C. Wonder. The store bears a striking resemblance to the Tory Burch boutiques; carrying preppy- chic clothing and brightly, colored accessories. C. Wonder is within walking distance from the Tory Burch store in SoHo, and although the design concept is similar, many of the items are retailing for under $50.00. Hmmmm….I wonder if this store is a direct venture of vendetta, or simply a homage to Tory herself? We shall “C” what transpires, until then we’ll just have to “Wonder”.

Day Dreaming

I dreamt that my whole world was sparkly and bright. I was surrounded by doors that were embellished with rhinestones and crystals, the walls were plastered with glitter and the ceilings were dripping with glowing chandeliers. My dress was a radiant, masterpiece compiled of sequins and diamonds. I admired my Miu Miu glittered pumps against the illuminating floor (think Saturday Night Fever) while I sipped champagne from a crystal-encrusted flute. Then I woke up and realized I was late for work.

I hope everyone has a great day. Keep dreaming and remember to wear something sparkly.

Mellow Yellow

Picture 2

I’m feeling mellow, so I’m putting on some yellow. My old acting coach at Fullerton College, (and inspirational mentor) Gary Krinke, once told me that when he was feeling tired, he would wear his yellow T-shirt and it would instantly lift his mood. Since I didn’t get any sleep last night (thanks Pinterest) and I still have to go to LA today, I think I’ll wake  things up with a touch of yellow. This ad from Mulberry Clothing is so sweet, but I’m not sure if it makes me alert or hungry? At any rate, I’m pulling out my yellow cardigan and if that doesn’t add pep to my step, listening to the soundtrack of Fame while driving up certainly will.

A Short Story

Picture 2

Once upon a time, there was a “sneak preview” from Anna Sui’s Fall 2012 Runway Show. Everyone was excited to see all of the color combinations in the collection and the continuation of shorts into fall. When purchasing their shorts for spring, they made sure to choose items that had longevity and that would pair well with colored tights and boots for fall. The End!

Pink in Love!

For some of you this may be old news, but for me, I’m still on a hot pink high! Betsey Johnson had several lines at MAGIC, including; clothing, handbags and shoes, so she made a special, guest appearance for her buyers. Her booth consisted of black and white checkered flooring, zany, over-the-top, pink, tufted chairs with ginormous rhinestones and a graffiti backdrop. She served pink champagne, gave away hot pink totes, and was the most gracious host. Since Roadkill Ranch carries her shoes, we had a nice chat about kitten heels and pin-up inspired footwear. I must have told her I loved her at least 5 times. Her magnetic personality dominated the room and I could feel the creative energy oozing from her soul. Betsey has been an inspiration to me for years, so meeting one of my favorite, cultural icons on Valentine’s Day was better than sex!
