Prints Charming

Head-to-toe prints are in! Mix it up with different patterns like this Dolce & Gabbana look. Or, take one print like this bold, DKNY floral and matchy-match everything from hats to shoes. Now is not the time to play it safe with a basic black outfit. Take advantage of this season’s trend and have some fun with your prints. I recommend mixing in the same color tone and then accenting with a crazy pop color for a dramatic impact. The good news is, you can’t go wrong with this look.

Oops, look at the clock! Time for me to find my prints!

PS I Love You!

Becky Sue Huff is an Orange County based pin-up model and car club extraordinaire. She empowers young women to work on their own cars (like she does) and is an inspiration to many. She has won numerous awards and pageants. She was crowned  Trophy Queen at last year’s Grand National Roadster Show and she recently took home the title of Miss Mooneyes at the Mooneyes Xmas Party and Drag Show. We are proud to have her as one of the new faces for Roadkill Ranch & Boutique.

Last weekend Becky Sue did a private photo shoot for us at Ruby Montana’s Coral Sands Inn in Palm Springs, Ca. The 1950’s Inn is a pink, cozy,  mid-century getaway. It’s quaint and kitschy and each room is theme-decorated. Miss Huff stayed in the Roy Rogers and Dale Evans Suite.

The shots are amazing (thanks to Matt Means) and I’ll be posting the pictures all week on the Roadkill Ranch facebook page, so be sure to take a peek.

Throw in the Towel

When I saw this turquoise Trina Turk towel on line, I had to have it! I loved the geometric design and the color was so fresh. I pretended not to notice the total price when I hit the “place order” button (I bought an orange one too). My OCD was kicking in and those designer towels would soon be mine. I figured for the price, I would get a lush, over-sized bath mat that would compare to no other. When the package came, I noticed it was a bit small. And when I opened it, I was completely disappointed. They were cute, but nothing special, just a plain old towel with a designer’s name on it. FAIL!

Then I found these other geometric printed towels on line at Khols. So, to make myself feel better, I bought every color, plus a Chevron striped one all for under the price I paid for 2 Trina Turk towels.

I stayed calm and kept shopping!

Happy Summer!

Here’s my “Freaky Friday Fashion” pics for the week.

I remember begging my mom to get my ears pierced at The Orange Mall until she gave in. Then a few years later my BF April got her hands on a piercing gun and we sat in her room and put as many holes in our lobes as we could. We were being creative! Maybe that’s how these people started too?

Mother’s Little Helper

Madonna the “Queen of Pop” has chosen Georgia May Jagger (the daughter of legendary rock star Mick Jagger) to be the newest face of her clothing line, “Material Girl”. With daughter Lourdes (AKA Lola) at her side assisting in the marketing and designing, Madge’s junior line will go global this summer. The collection will be sold exclusively at Macy’s, and Georgia May Jagger will appear in all of the back-to-school ads.

“To be handpicked by Madonna and Lola as the new face of Material Girl is truly amazing,” said Jagger.

Congratulations Georgia May!

PS-  Tell your dad I want to make mad, passionate…Oh never mind!

California Dreamin’

California Dreamin'
This outfit reminds me of when I was growing up in Anaheim, Ca. during the ’70s. Bright colors, rainbow wedges, lightning bolt earrings and heart-shaped sunglasses were all a part of my wardrobe. My BFF and I thought we were “Charlie’s Angels”, so we would lurk around the neighborhood (fashionably of course) collecting evidence and taking pictures of “mysterious” people and things. And we did crack a few cases. We caught my brother Bob putting fire crackers into the gas tank of Nana’s car and we stopped “Frizzy” (that was the nick name for the white kid down the street with an afro) from stealing a motorcycle. Yep, even though we ran away screaming when “Frizzy” caught us taking pictures of the “mysterious” bike he had parked in front of our house, we still accomplished our mission–our moms told his mom and the rest was history. We feathered our hair, slathered on the lip gloss and owned the block. It’s interesting how fashion icons from the ’70s are becoming popular once again. If I had the chance to live it all over again I would in a heartbeat. But for now, I can remember the days of my youth through todays fashion.

Stripe Type

Stripes are timeless and look great as a focal piece or an accessory. When wearing stripes, make sure to choose for your body type. If you are tall and thin, then a horizontal, striped article of clothing will work. If you are heavier in the middle, go for a small or vertical stripe to give the illusion that your are thinner. You can’t go wrong with stripes, so mix it up, and have some fun. Take a striped scarf and tie it on your handbag or wrap it as a head band. If you opt for big stripes as your main feature, pair with smaller striped items as accent pieces (and vice versa) to create dimension and balance. Unless you are 12 years old, or are helping out at the circus, I recommend staying away from horizontal striped socks. Otherwise, get your stripe on!

It’s Not easy being green

Here’s my “Freaky Friday Fashion” pick of the week. This Kermit the Frog jacket by Jean-Charles de Castelbajac made its way to the runways of Paris. I’m still waiting for Miss Piggy to jump out from backstage and smack this model in the face with a loaded handbag for her poor fashion choice.

I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Bite Me!

Tooth charms are eating their way through the fashion industry and ending up in mouths everywhere. I can’t decide if I like it or hate it. At first glance it looks like a rotten tooth or a piece of food that was left behind after lunch. And, if you don’t have pearly whites, it’s not a good idea to draw attention to your chompers. Some of the charms are made from 14k gold, white gold and real diamonds, so they can get pricey.  The trinkets are adhered with a dental composite material that can last from 6 months to a year. I think I’m going to pass on this trend, it seems like just another thing to worry about. Is it straight? Does my tooth charm have anything hanging from it? What if I swallow it? Oy!

If I’m going to spend money on gold and diamonds I want to make sure they’ll be around for a while and not floating in the toilet due to accidental consumption.
