I recently had the privilege of being invited (along with other business owners and press) to a pre-opening party for Hopscotch in Fullerton. At first I thought it was just another bar, but realized later that it was much more than that!

Not only do they offer slow cooked comfort food like: homemade mac ‘n’ cheese, pork ‘n’ beans, and mashed potatoes, but their “spirits program” is amazing!

James Wood (AKA Master Mixologist) says, “When it came to doing the beverage program at Hopscotch, I knew we were limited on space. Since the major component of the restaurant is whiskey based, we decided to do exceptional spirits. Anyone can do a Grey Goose or a Ketel One, and those aren’t bad spirits, but there’s a lot of independents out there making small batches of gin. And in my opinion, do it better.”

Hopscotch has scouted out, tasted and delivers to their clients what I like to call a “boutique of spirits”. They may not be the most popular brands, but they’re the best!

“Some of these guys are scraping to get by on a day to day basis and can’t get their name in the marketplace. If we like how it tastes and the story behind it, we bring it into our spirits program. Hopefully our customers will be excited to try  something new and be educated as well.” Said James.

The food is incredible and everything is made-from-scratch using farm fresh, locally- sourced, produce and ingredients. I had a fun night with my gal pals and fellow business owners. And just when I thought the night couldn’t  get any better, Kent Pawlowski (the Executive Chef) hand- delivered me the most delicious dessert; a butterscotch cake. I took one bite and…yep… you guessed it…I kissed the cook! (On the cheek people!!)

Hopscotch Tavern is open for lunch, dinner and weekend brunch. Hours of operation are 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.
