I love my job!

I am so incredibly blessed to be surrounded by awesome and talented people. Since I’m on the committee for the 3rd annual Art Walk celebration in Fullerton, I’m excited to see the fruits of our labor come to fruition tomorrow. Representing my store (Roadkill Ranch & Boutique) is one of the most amazing artists I’ve ever met, Mr. Tom Vadakan. Aside from numerous works and exhibits,  he was recently commissioned to do an illustration character by the crew on the set of the upcoming Star Trek movie. It was a gift to their director J.J. Abrams.

Also representing Roadkill Ranch is the super talented Dano Forte. He is a one man band with a huge following. His act “The Juke Joint Freak Show” is so incredible that he recently opened for Social Distortion three nights in a row at The House of Blues in Anaheim.

If you live in the area, I hope you will stop by the Museum Center in Fullerton tomorrow night from 6pm to 10pm and check out all of the incredible artists and musicians that will be performing.

Space Cadet

I am loving all of the galaxy prints and space inspired styles this season. We started seeing some planetary action a while back, but it looks as though the stars have finally aligned with the universe and the fashion industry is heading toward a galactic surge.

The top above is from my store (Roadkill Ranch & Boutique) and we’re still waiting for the leggings to arrive. I just can’t get my hands on enough of this solar system look. From clothing, to shoes, to phone cases, to nail art, it’s all about outer space.

I woke up this morning with the Flash Gordon theme song in my head from Queen, so I decided to share it with you as well. I’m sure it will put you in super hero, traveling through space at the speed of light mood; because everyone needs a little “pick me up” on hump day.

Church Members

Picture 9 Picture 10Picture 11

Here’s a sneak peek from Dolce and Gabbana’s 2013 fall collection.

In the beginning Dolce created a sheath. Gabbana added mosaic prints that were inspired by the Monreale Cathedral church.

Together they spirited their disciples away with rich fabrics and embellished looks. Crowns and oversized chandelier earrings adorned the models and the collection brought peace to the industry.

Amen.

So Hot!

Clooney-and-Keible_1679864a

The Oscars were full of amazing gowns and star-studded styles in “Tinsel Town” yesterday. My favorite look by far was this hot number. I loved the sleek, sexy, effortless feel. The black accessories, the sultry bedroom eyes and the facial hair just melts my heart. Oh, and Stacy Keibler’s dress by designer Naeem Khan was nice too.

Crap Shoot

Here’s my “Freaky Friday Fashion” pic for the week, crappy accessories. During London Fashion Week, designer Louise Gray decided to accessorize her collection with rolls of toilet paper. I’m not sure why she thought this was necessary? Her designs look amazing with all of the rich and lush fabrics, so adding toilet paper elements completely cheapened the look.

They say the best ideas come to you when you’re on the toilet or in the shower, so maybe she was inspired after sitting on the pot for a while? Who knows? Sorrry Louise, this idea should be flushed!

Wood You?

afp-crazy-fashion

Here’s my “Freaky Friday Fashion” pic for the week, a hand-carved, wooden dress (I think it’s a dress─ could pass as a tunic) by Dutch designer Iris Van Herpen. It looks so effortless and comfortable. NOT! And what about the splinter factor?

I love the intricately, carved designs throughout the bodice and neckline; truly a masterpiece. I’m sure Herpen’s sales would excel if she scaled back on the wood clothing and started incorporating her designs into furniture instead. The piece pictured is a great start to a headboard.

Red Roses

During Thom Browne’s runway show at New York Fashion Week, everything was coming up roses. The  stage was set with a magical, winter forest scene, while male models lay strapped to metal beds donning Browne’s menswear styles and crowns of thorns. The women were dramatically dressed with a huge emphasis on red roses, blooming on everything from tights to dresses to jackets. Each model carried a fresh bunch down the catwalk and cast their bouquets on the death-like men.

Interpretation? It seems like he is putting to death his men’s line as a sacrifice to focus on his women’s collection. I noticed that none of the roses have thorns, so perhaps it’s translating into a season without curse? That’s my best shot.

According to Mr. Browne, “The inspiration was strong women, strong shoulders, strong hips. The rest was just riffs on the color red.”

Escalating Looks

Louis-vuitton-ss-2013-by-Yannis-Vlamos Louis-Vuitton-SS13-5hbz-2013-trends-1-louis-vuitton-deIMG_5145

When Marc (Have I told you I love you?) Jacobs unveiled the Louis Vuitton Spring collection in Paris last fall, it was another amazing production. The man is pure genius and is constantly outdoing each of his own shows. The models started at the top of the escalators as if they were coming down from “Fashion Heaven” onto the glassy floors of a 1960’s department store. The escalator stage was built in collaboration with artist Daniel Buren to compliment the aesthetic of the clothing.

“They are a moving pattern, a rhythm, it’s a mathematical equation.” Jacobs told reporters.

OMG! I’m in love with your mind!!! (Oops, did I say that out loud?)

He undeniably sets the trends for the entire Fashion Industry and paves the way for each season. Designers everywhere are being influenced by his work, and we are seeing a lot of mod-inspired looks and bold, graphic prints in the stores.

The bottom picture is an outfit that we have at my boutique (Roadkill Ranch). It’s not Louis Vuitton, but clearly inspired by. We are definitely tapping into the world of Marc Jacobs; but what else is new?

Pair your black and whites with a pop of color like emerald, yellow, or hot pink for a fresh spin on spring.

Stay Stylish!

Pink Lover

Think Pink
Valentine’s Day is just two days away, and I’m in a pink mood. These are a few of my favorite things and they also make really awesome gifts. (Hint! Hint!)
Obviously Santa Clause didn’t read my blog during Christmas, because I only got one thing on my wish list. And I was good!
Let’s see if Cupid pays attention.

Lego Lagerfeld

chanel-lego_1chanel-lego_3 chanel-lego_4

Sometimes I can’t help but play army men, Legos, cars, and everything else that comes with having a seven-year-old son. But lately, I’ve been thinking to myself that I’ve been spending too much time playing games and should probably grow up a bit. Then, Chanel came out with these Lego-inspired clutches during Paris Fashion Week, so now I’m justified!!! Woo Hoo!!!

I wonder if Karl Lagerfeld sits at home and plays with Legos too? That’s probably why they’re available in a rainbow of colors. Because every child (at heart) knows that playing with just one Lego is boring. And, that’s exactly how I’m going to justify the purchases of the green, the clear and the red. I want to build a fort!  (The army men need a place to hide.)

Happy Monday!
