The Great Gatsby is a movie that portrays America during the Roaring Twenties era and is scheduled to open the Cannes Film Festival on May 15th.
Catherine Martin, the film’s costume designer, hired the French lace specialist Solstiss to create custom designs for the movie. They produced over 1,400 meters of lace with 210 special patterns. Tiffany’s jewelry also plays a big role in the movie and can be seen dripping on everything from head pieces to bracelets.
I’m excited to see where the trends go for the next season, as this production will certainly have an impact on designers. Look for tons of lace, long and layered pearls, pleated anything, and longer skits and dresses. Also, watch out for the resurrection of the head gear. Look for beaded cloches, glitzy head bands and lots of feather and applique embellishments.
