The late Roy Lichtenstein has proved to be an iconic 20th century Pop artist. His comic book inspired art was a big look in the ’80s and is now being resurrected at Barney’s New York. Thanks to the Art Production Fund (a non-profit organization which supports public art projects) together with Roy’s wife Dorothy and the Lichtenstein estate, the artist’s works will medium through home décor items.

In honor of the exclusive Roy Lichtenstein collection, Barney’s held a Pop Art party in his favor. The windows were decked out with giant recreations of Roy’s signature plates, cups and frisbees, while guests dressed in bright, bold, cartoon-like outfits. All-American finger food like miniature grilled cheese sandwiches dipped in tomato soup and tater tots were served with Coca Cola.

Some of the home items include: water bottles, beach towels, place-mats, dish ware and pillows. It’s a fun and happy collection and 25% of the proceeds will go to benefit the Art Production Fund.

I’ve been noticing a surge of comic-book inspired T-shirts and accessories in the fashion world lately. I’m predicting a pulp-like, ’80s- inspired, Pop Art revolution soon.

Mark my words.

Shoe Addict

What makes for a perfect Saturday? For me, it’s  walking down Madison Ave. in New York with my “bestie” checking out window displays and shopping for shoes. And, that’s exactly what I did last Saturday (hence the lack of blogging all week). New York was amazing and the only bad thing about the trip was that it went by too fast! I was so inspired by all of  the boutiques and specialty shops; the amount of pride and visual integrity that went into the presentation of the store window displays was extraordinary.

My favorite, by far, was Barney’s. Since, they’re celebrating shoes all month, they took it to the extreme. They transformed their window into a live fish tank where Christian Louboutin pumps floated in mid air while hundreds of pink fish swam around them. “Swimming with the Louboutin” was the epic message.

The opposing window was a collage of pumps. It looked as though someone had dumped a truck load of shoes into a giant, glass box. The sign read: “Count The Shoes”. Of course, after you stood there for 45 minutes counting shoes, you were encouraged to submit your count inside the store for a chance to win a shopping spree. I didn’t have time to count the shoes, my ADD was kicking in and I found myself on the 5th floor of Barney’s lusting and crying over the most amazing shoes in the world.  It was sick!!!

Unfortunately, I can’t tell you what happened next, because my husband sometimes reads my blog. Hint: YSL wedge.

Character Parade

Barney’s of New York has paved the way in window dressing for years. Their over-the-top, avant-garde displays have inspired me time and time again. Now, they’ve teamed up with Disney to create a holiday theme called “Electric Holiday”. The inspiration comes from Disney’s electrical parade and shows our favorite Disney icons in the fashion world. The project is a three-dimensional short film which tells the story about  Minnie Mouse’s fantasy to be at the Paris shows. She runs into her pals, Goofy, Daisy Duck , Cruella de Vil, Princess Tiana and Snow White. All of the characters are styled in designer clothes as they walk the cat walk. The windows will unveil on Nov. 14th at their flagship store in New York City surrounded by flashing lights and paparazzi.

Barney’s will offer a limited collection of holiday  items like Vinylmation figures designed by Paul Smith and Diane von Furstenberg and Mickey Mouse ears from Rag & Bone. They will also donate 25% of the proceeds from the Electric Holiday sales to a charity they will announce soon.

OK- who is going with me to New York? Email or text me and let’s get a group of kindred spirits to fly to the “Big Apple” in the name of fashion. Because life is too short to miss out on Goofy’s (and the other Disney characters) debut as a runway model.
