My Universe

img_1011img_1012img_1016img_1027

Saturday  was the opening night of “California: The Center of the Universe” exhibit at The Fullerton Museum Center. It was an incredible, cosmic display of NASA pictures, sketches and early drawings and works of astronomers and scientists.

I’ve always been intrigued with the Universe, and all of its mighty elements.  I wish on shooting stars, I find images in cloud formations, and I know deep down in my heart, there’s a Divine Intelligence that’s beyond our human capacity to understand.

I was a little frazzled upon arrival. An hour before the show, I received  a call to come back to Roadkill Ranch & Boutique. There was an interesting fellow stirring up trouble, disturbing the customers, and galloping around the store displaying obscene body gestures while wearing one of our horse masks. He wasn’t too thrilled when I showed up on  the scene and ruined his fun. So, after I dealt with that problem, I realized I had an even bigger problem, I had forgotten my earrings at home. And, well, they were part of my “exhibit” outfit (I always try to dress accordingly). Good thing I literally live above The Museum Center and without a moment to spare, I was able to get back to my place, grab my Tarina Tarantino moon earrings and meet my friend Karen just in time for the opening reception.

All calmed down when I began to lose myself in the photos from outer space. I felt peaceful while looking into infinity, and my problems and worries seemed so small compared to the vast Universe.

There’s a big cosmos trend happening in the fashion industry, and I’ve been buying a lot of planetary-related merchandise for the store. We even have glow-in-the-dark moon leggings on order.  I think the Universe is trying to speak to me, and I’m pretty sure it’s saying, “Don’t let guys in horse masks keep you from living a peaceful life.”  Or, maybe it’s trying to show me how to trust in the mystery of my journey and give me the peace to know everything is going to be fine in its time.

The first three pics are pics of pics I took on my phone. Original photos on display by NASA’s Hubble space telescope.

The last pic is of my man-in-the-moon earrings, available at Roadkill Ranch & Boutique.

Fullerton’s Art Walk

I love my job!

I am so incredibly blessed to be surrounded by awesome and talented people. Since I’m on the committee for the 3rd annual Art Walk celebration in Fullerton, I’m excited to see the fruits of our labor come to fruition tomorrow. Representing my store (Roadkill Ranch & Boutique) is one of the most amazing artists I’ve ever met, Mr. Tom Vadakan. Aside from numerous works and exhibits,  he was recently commissioned to do an illustration character by the crew on the set of the upcoming Star Trek movie. It was a gift to their director J.J. Abrams.

Also representing Roadkill Ranch is the super talented Dano Forte. He is a one man band with a huge following. His act “The Juke Joint Freak Show” is so incredible that he recently opened for Social Distortion three nights in a row at The House of Blues in Anaheim.

If you live in the area, I hope you will stop by the Museum Center in Fullerton tomorrow night from 6pm to 10pm and check out all of the incredible artists and musicians that will be performing.

13 Calaveras

Whenever we change out our windows, we try to keep the Ranch side different from the boutique side. Well, because, they’re different. Our friend (and local artist) Leonard Fiedororwicz is an amazing window dresser and an awesome artist. Last year was the first time in 18 years that we gave an artist (Leonard) complete creative control over our window displays. So, I guess you could say that Leonard made history with the  “Fun House” window, a circus theme with an edge that turned out incredible.

This year he’s back with “The Day of the Dead” celebration. And, since Leonard is our featured artist this month for Fullerton’s Art Walk at Roadkill Ranch, we gave him the control over our windows again (it’s not an easy thing to do when you have 4 creatively, intense Roadkill Girls).

His exhibit is titled “13 Calaveras” and he has created 13 skulls to be featured. The 2 largest skulls are already hanging in the windows and they look fab! Each skull is made from wood, hand-painted, numbered and signed. And, they are all reasonably priced (along with some of his one-of-a-kind collectibles).

The rest of the exhibit will be on display Friday from 6pm to 10pm. So, if you’re in the area, please stop by and see his amazing show, check out our windows, and pick up a skull or two.

Leonard’s friend  “El Mysterioso” will be entertaining us with his phenomenal, one-man-band Mariachi show.

And, rumor has it…there might be sangria floating around.

“Fun House” window by Leonard Fiedorowicz, 2011. History in the making.

P.S. When snooty vendors ask me for pics of my brick and mortar store (to make sure that I really do have a store), I send them this pic  and say, “Is this OK?”
