Double Trouble

Two bags are better than one. It’s true, Fendi, Chanel, Chloe, Mulberry and Louis Vuitton all say so!

The trend of toting two bags at the same time is coming in hard this season. Designers are featuring larger silhouettes like a tote or travel bag as a focal point and then accessorizing with a smaller pouch or clutch. Brilliant! Thanks Fashion Industry! Now all of us fashion addicts can purchase two designer bags at once without feeling guilty and be totally justified.

The first picture is Fendi, a functional and easy look to achieve. Add a tiny novelty bag to the outside of a larger one for a funky look.

The second picture is Chanel. Drape a few cross-body bags over your bodice while carrying your main purse. (It’s all the rage.)

The third picture is Chloe. Just carry two in the same hand (no big deal).

The fourth picture is Mulberry. Cross-body over bodice and tote in hand. (My fave.)

The fifth is Louis Vuitton. Just do it, carry two (everyone’s doing it).

This is one sure way to drive handbag sales up for the season. Pretty soon we’ll see designer shoes hanging off of designer bags. Then we can buy two pair of designer shoes, one to wear on our feet and the other to accessorize our two bags. Woot!

And, if anyone tells you that you have too many handbags or shoes, get rid of that person! You don’t need that kind of negativity in your life! The only extra baggage you need is CHANEL!

Lovely Bones

I’ve been seeing an influx of dinosaur bones and other skeletal images in the fashion industry lately. The first thing to catch my eye last year was this gold dinosaur necklace by Tatty Devine. I thought it was amazing! Then I brought in a few “bone” images on T-shirts and tanks and the customers really dug them. (Pun intended, but I’m also still half asleep, so have a little mercy on me.) The flamingo pic is a post we did on Instagram a few weeks ago from the boutique.

Anyway, Louis Vuitton just released this dinosaur sketch of what their windows will look like for fall. Woot! I’m so excited because we have more Jurassic-inspired items on order for Roadkill Ranch and, our featured artist for October (Matt Brady) makes handmade jewelry from the bones of (real) tiny animals. It’s creepy-cool! But we love it!

Think Pink

“Think pink, if you have to think at all!” Yes, I’m channelling one of my favorite movie scenes from “Funny Face”. After capturing a glimpse of a few of the fall collections, it’s safe to say, “think pink!”

Usually pink is a key hue for spring and summer, but this fall designers are taking the baby soft look into fall and creating major outerwear and staple pieces.

When making purchases this season, stock up on pink pieces. The longevity of the color is strong.

Escalating Looks

When Marc (Have I told you I love you?) Jacobs unveiled the Louis Vuitton Spring collection in Paris last fall, it was another amazing production. The man is pure genius and is constantly outdoing each of his own shows. The models started at the top of the escalators as if they were coming down from “Fashion Heaven” onto the glassy floors of a 1960’s department store. The escalator stage was built in collaboration with artist Daniel Buren to compliment the aesthetic of the clothing.

“They are a moving pattern, a rhythm, it’s a mathematical equation.” Jacobs told reporters.

OMG! I’m in love with your mind!!! (Oops, did I say that out loud?)

He undeniably sets the trends for the entire Fashion Industry and paves the way for each season. Designers everywhere are being influenced by his work, and we are seeing a lot of mod-inspired looks and bold, graphic prints in the stores.

The bottom picture is an outfit that we have at my boutique (Roadkill Ranch). It’s not Louis Vuitton, but clearly inspired by. We are definitely tapping into the world of Marc Jacobs; but what else is new?

Pair your black and whites with a pop of color like emerald, yellow, or hot pink for a fresh spin on spring.

Fashion Is My Drug

It’s officially “Market Week” and I spent six hours with one vendor yesterday hammering out my buy plan for our upcoming web store (www.roadkillranch.com). I’m headed back to LA again today for round two.

Yep, fashion is my drug and I love it!!!

Trunk Show

Galeries Lafayette in Paris kicked off the celebration of their holiday window displays with a live elephant dressed in Louis Vuitton swag. The window theme is “The Ball of The Century” and marks the centenary existence of the glass dome store. The window depicts wild and exotic animals surrounding luxury leather goods and designer clothing, while stacks of vintage luggage pays homage to Louis Vuitton’s 158 years of history.

After all of the hoopla and after all of the retail officials gave speeches, the elephant turned on the store’s lights with his trunk.

Wow!!! What a show! (I’m still waiting for the clown and popcorn.)

Crazy Catalogue Items

Neiman Marcus has just released their Holiday Catalogue and some of the “luxury” items are out-of-control!

Featured for $150,000, you can own a Bulleit Frontier Whiskey Woody-Tailgate Trailer. It comes complete with a radical sound system (including a flat screen TV), and a fully stocked bar. Tailgating never looked so good!

Or, for all of those times when you belted out Annie tunes in your bedroom without anyone discovering your raw talent, now is your chance to shine. For a mere $30,000, you can actually star on Broadway in “Annie: The Musical”. Wow! I guess the sun really will come out tomorrow!

And, just incase your hens aren’t being pampered enough, this luxury hen house (inspired by France’s Versailles palace)  can be yours for only $100,000. I’m sure the hens will appreciate the library and the crystal chandeliers.

Well, this could work to my advantage. I’ll beg my husband for the trailer and when he says no, I’ll start crying and insist on the once-in-a-lifetime chance to star on Broadway as Annie. After he tries to talk some financial sense into me, I’ll calm down and agree with him. Then I’ll let him know that I’ll be happy with just a new iPhone5, a new iPad and a new Louis Vuitton bag. It should work like a charm. Thanks Neiman Marcus!

Fall in Love

Fall in Love
I woke up to one of my favorite sounds, raindrops dancing on my roof top. It’s the best alarm clock and a nice reminder that  fall is finally here! I love how the leaves on the trees change colors, the summer palettes get packed a way and the autumn hues come out to play. This outfit is my inspiration for the day and sets the precedent for embracing fall. Happy Wednesday!

Spot On!

The Louis Vuitton flagship store in NY finally unveiled the Yayoi Kusma collaboration. Marc Jacobs and the eccentric artist Kusama have been planning this dot obsession for over a year. Not only have they been teaming up on products, but also on the visual intensity of the store to create major impact.

The store windows and outside of the building are saturated with polka-dots. Louis Vuitton CEO Yves Carcelle say, “The number of dots is so obsessive, no one can count them.”

Kusama- the 83 year old, cult-art star showed up in a wheel chair dressed in her signature look (you guessed it- dots), while guests flocked to get a glimpse of the icon herself.

Louis Vuitton pays homage to Yayoi Kusama with a life-sized, wax model of the artist that stands proudly in the window.

The products are expected to be overnight collector’s items, so with that being said, I’ll see you in line at the nearest LV boutique.

Purple Prediction

Purple seems to be the “new” black on the runways for the sneak peeks of 2013. Major fashion houses like Prada, Louis Vuitton and Chanel are all featuring the color in their collections. When making purchases this season, choose purple for longevity.
