Happy Sunday Funday! I’m packed up, fueled up, watered up and ready to hit the road.

The MAGIC trade show is happening next week in Las Vegas and I’ll be buying fall and holiday merchandise for Roadkill Ranch & Boutique. Yep, I’m heading into 120 degrees weather to buy sweaters and jackets. Yay me!

I won’t be blogging next week, because I’m going to be so busy having fun (I mean working). But I promise to come back with a full fashion report and lots of stories.

Check out our insatgram account @Roadkill_ranch for up-to-the-minute show excitement and more.

I hope everyone has a great week. Stay cool and stay stylish!

Tess-Holliday

Tess Holliday is her name and changing traditional beauty standards is her game!

I first met Tess last year at the MAGIC Trade Show in Las Vegas. MAGIC stands for Mens Apparel Guild in California, but has grown vastly over the years, so much they’ve moved the show to a bigger venue in Las Vegas and added women’s and kid’s categories. Buyers from all over the world attend this biannual show to purchase the latest and the greatest items for their stores.

Tess had been working closely with Steady Clothing (one of our top vendors) consulting on plus-size styles and appearing in their photo shoots. She was representing them at their booth in Vegas so we started chatting it up. She began a social media movement using the hashtag #EffYourBeautyStandards that took off like wild fire. Her modeling posts gained her internet fame and also landed her on the cover of People Magazine. She created the campaign because she was sick and tired of society telling her what she could and couldn’t wear, so she decided… “Eff that! I’ll wear what I want!”

She was constanlty bullied as a kid about her weight, and when she first tried to break into modeling, she was turned down by the industry. But she never gave up. At size 22 she is the first plus-size model to be signed by a major modeling agency (MILK Modeling Management). Her personality is down to earth and her message is strong and empowering. She calls herself a body positive activist and encourages women to love the skin they’re in!

The second pic is Josh Brownfield (owner of Steady Clothing), Julie Rasmussen owner of  Roadkill Ranch & Boutique (just me), The Cherry Dollface (another famed internet personality) and Tess Holliday at The Steady Clothing booth during MAGIC.

The fourth is another gorgeous pic of Tess.

Art Skool

During our buy trip to Vegas last week, we met so many incredibly, talented people. As we were scouting the Pool Trade Show, we stumbled across this group of artists from Art Skool Clothing, and were immediately drawn to their charismatic energy and love of art. After bonding over designs, we found out they too are from Orange County, grew up in Anaheim and currently live in Yorba Linda and LA. Such a small world.

The artists take their own original pantings and transfer the images onto fashion T-shirts and totes. The T-shirts are not your basic Tees; they are cropped, slouched, off-the-shoulder and boast beautiful creations. They offer limited runs and the work speaks for itself. It’s such a fresh take on fashion.

And, since we participate in The Fullerton Art Walk every month, we’re trying to “woo” them to make a special guest appearance at Roadkill Ranch & Boutique for one of our shows. After all, they are locals. Wink!

Check out their website for awesome wearable art at http://www.artskoolclothing.com and stay tuned with Roadkill Ranch & Boutique for upcoming info about fashion and the arts.

Pictured left to right is Eric La Barr, Jay Costelo, and Natalie Marie Ames. We love this energetic, passionately, creative team and wish them tons of success.

Oz

So, yesterday I went to see the movie Oz and something amazing happened. James Franco was there signing autographs and we started talking. Next thing I know we’re having dinner at his place and he asked me to be in his next movie. Then he tells me that he never believed in love at first sight until he met me.

April Fools!!!

PS I really did see the movie and liked it!

Queens Rocket

Dear Monday, I’m ready to kick your ass!

I survived another trade show in Vegas last week (MAGIC) and it was incredible! The vendors, the merchandise, and the creative vibe was all insanely wonderful! I met a lot of new designers and bought so many great items for the store. I can hardly wait until it all starts rolling in.

One of my favorite new designers is Jon Fulton Adams. His screen print T-shirts are an edgy mix of fairy tale whimsy with an element of hilarious surprise. And, he had a fully decked out “Queen” representing in the booth. How could  I not stop and take pics? You all know how I love theatrical people and their hijinks. Anyway, after we chatted for a while, (and filmed a video) Jon promised that he’d turn his men’s shirts into women’s shirts just for Roadkill Ranch & Boutique! (OK, so a few other buyers were pushing for the same thing, but hey…I made him promise! ) Woot! Woot!

It’s good to be back and I wish I could tell you more about my trip. But, what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.

Pin Ups and Rock Stars

This week is crazy, jammed-packed with everything that revolves around fashion. Tonight is the Pin-Ups and Rock Stars event at The Roxy in Hollywood. Not only is my boutique, Roadkill Ranch, one of the sponsors, but I get the honor of judging my first “official” Pin-Up contest. It’s not too late to join us, and there’s lots of amazing prizes. Plus, Pin UP America Magazine will be covering the event. Then, I fly out for Vegas first thing in the morning for MAGIC (one of the biggest trade shows in the industry). I can’t wait to scout for awesome merchandise to fill the boutique with. So just in case I’m not consistently blogging this week, don’t worry, I’m fine! I’m just shopping for you (and  I don’t like paying the inflated  internet  prices in Vegas).
