My Muse

It wouldn’t be right to resurrect my blog without reiterating my undying love for Marc Jacobs. After a two year blog-hiatus, I had to ask myself a few questions to make sure I still felt the same way about him.

1. Do you still think he’s a genius? Ummm…YES!

2. Do you still think he sets the trends for the entire Fashion Industry? Ummm…YES!

3. Do you still think he’s adorable? Ummm…YES!!!

4. Do you still have fantasies about being stuck in an elevator with him? Ummm…YES! (Only to pick his brain of course.)

5. Do you still dream about walking down the aisle with him? Ummm…YES! (The aisle of one of his runway shows.)

OK, it’s still there!

This season Marc has commissioned  Cher to be one of the new faces for his fall collection. The 69-year-old, mega-superstar has successfully reinvented herself once again by modeling. (She’s also on the cover of Love Magazine this month.) He brilliantly swings the pendulum on this and adds 14-year-old Willow Smith in the same collection, showing us age has no bounds in fashion.

The collection is very dark in tones, rich in texture and polished immaculately, evoking a feeling of strength and power. Inspired by the late Diana Vreeland (a fashion hero for Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue and special consultant at the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art ), Marc says, “The collection is a garden of hell. That’s what fashion is, this paradise that’s sort of hellish in a way. You love it ’til you hate it, you hate ’til you love it!”

Look for faux fur details, nail heads and grommets embellished on clothing, and sleek, polished accessories.

I’ve attached the short video below of the runway show and Marc talking about his 2015 Fall collection. It’s so much better to hear about this masterpiece in his own words. It’s short and worth a watch (or two, or three). Wink! Wink!

Happy Monday! Stay stylish and stay creative!

Book Marc

34

Last week Heidi (the store manager of Roadkill Ranch & Boutique) and I were invited to an Emmy celebrity party on Melrose, hosted by Doris Bergman and Associates. It was a lovely day full of TV stars and industry people. We had the opportunity to promote Roadkill Ranch & Boutique and network with some amazing souls. (I will post pics this week.)

Since it was a daytime event, we were out early and decided to explore the area. Of course you all know I break for Marc Jacobs, so when we saw his book store… SCREECH!

Up until that point, the highlight of my day was meeting Robert Wagner, but when I caught this giant eyeball blinking in the window of Book Marc (How cute is that name?), thoughts flooded my brain about the genius that powers Marc Jacobs. There was no place to park (What else is new?), but I noticed a loading zone. Heidi (AKA Ethel) pretended to load our mannequins in the car while I ran into the store in hopes to see Marc Jacobs and express my undying love. (My fantasy life is awesome!)

Unfortunately, he wasn’t there. And of course, no pictures allowed. But, after 10 minutes of questioning the girl behind the counter of his whereabouts, she finally caved and let me take a pic of the eyeball. I’m pretty sure she just wanted to get rid of me. After I told her I wanted to get stuck in an elevator with Marc for hours just to pick his brain, she gave me a “you are crazy” look. Oh, who cares what she thinks? Plus, now I can share the cool window display with you all.

Happy Monday! Stay true to yourself!

Miley Cyrus is the latest celeb to take her clothes off for Marc Jacobs. The twenty- year-old pop star, stripped down in an effort to support the “Protect The Skin You’re In” campaign created by fashion guru Marc Jacobs. The T-shirts help raise awareness about melanoma and all of the proceeds go to NYU Skin Cancer Institute and NYU Langone Medical Center.

Miley now joins an impressive list of major stars who have bared it all, including: Heidi Klum, Victoria Beckham, Naomi Campbell and more. See the entire collection and support a good cause while you’re at it; click here  MarcJacobs .

Dear Marc,

Please be the next person to pose naked for this campaign. I’d be more excited to have you on my chest than Miley. I’m just sayin’! Oh, and by the way, I love you!

Geometric Prints

They say geometric prints are the “new” thing. I say they copied my mom!

It’s funny how history and fashion repeats itself. But, what’s even more humorous is when designers call it “new”.

We’ve been seeing a lot of clean lines and graphic prints in the fashion world, and geometric patterns are making a come back. Notice how I said “come back.”

The first pic is a dress by Ann Betty. I’m loving the strong, bold pattern in a sweet sheath style.

The second pic is from a photo shoot on the Cult of Style blog. It’s so dramatic and really drives the geometric message home.

The third pic is from Marc Jacobs 2013-2014 runway show.

And the last pic is my mom and dad in our Anaheim house in 1971.

My mom took her style seriously and I can honestly look back and say, “Now I know why I am the way I am.”  I was constantly surrounded by design, I mean look at the velvet picture on the fireplace.

Instead of saying geometric prints are  a “new” look, I’m going to say it’s a 1971, Anaheim, California inspiration.

If only my mom would’ve kept all of her clothes, I would be able to predict the trends for ever. For now, I’ll just keep digging through all of our old family pictures. Maybe I’ll find another “new” thing.

Get Laced

Do you want to know what’s hot now in the fashion world and trending into fall?

Lace!

Not only are designers using lace details, but they are also using head-to-toe lace outfits. Whether it be a solid lace pantsuit or a dress, or a simple camisole treated with lace, anything goes.

These are a few of my favorite designs from recent runway shows.

The first is a high-neck, lace blouse by Dolce & Gabbana. It adds a little mystery and sexiness to a day skirt.

The second picture is Roberto Cavalli. I love the textures and silhouettes of this ensemble. It’s the perfect mix of femininity and innocence infused with high style.

The third picture is Valentino. It’s dramatic and fierce, yet there’s a certain serious vibe about it.

The fourth picture is of Marc (Have I told you I love you?) Jacobs in an all-over lace outfit. I’m telling you, there’s nothing this man can do fashionably wrong in my eyes. Also, this picture was taken back in 2012, it just goes to show you how ahead of the trend he is. A true visionary!

So get laced! Add a little lace top to your boyfriend jeans, or take a lace dress and pair it with summer sandals. Look for colored lace and lace detailing on skirts, jackets, shoes and handbags.

Hippity Hoppity

originaleasterdesignerupload-1Marc-Jacobs-Milano

Have you ever been so busy that you forgot what day it was?

My mom came down this week to visit (and help out with Mt. Washmore – the never ending laundry pile). We started talking about Easter plans and I suggested we talk about it next week. She laughed and said, “Julie, Easter is this Sunday.”

I completely lost track of time. (I’m still recovering from St. Patrick’s Day.) Perhaps this a sign to slow down a bit and smell the roses (or the coffee)?  I just get so carried away with projects and the day-to-day events that encompass my business, it’s hard to slow down. I might miss something, like Easter.

Anyway, as I was searching for lost inspiration, I found these designer eggs and Pantone designs that I wanted to share. And then, when I found  this picture of Marc Jacobs with his bunny ears, my heart melted and I actually slowed down for just enough time to think about him and me and …Oh nevermind!!!

Hope everyone has a Happy Easter!

Escalating Looks

Louis-vuitton-ss-2013-by-Yannis-Vlamos Louis-Vuitton-SS13-5hbz-2013-trends-1-louis-vuitton-deIMG_5145

When Marc (Have I told you I love you?) Jacobs unveiled the Louis Vuitton Spring collection in Paris last fall, it was another amazing production. The man is pure genius and is constantly outdoing each of his own shows. The models started at the top of the escalators as if they were coming down from “Fashion Heaven” onto the glassy floors of a 1960’s department store. The escalator stage was built in collaboration with artist Daniel Buren to compliment the aesthetic of the clothing.

“They are a moving pattern, a rhythm, it’s a mathematical equation.” Jacobs told reporters.

OMG! I’m in love with your mind!!! (Oops, did I say that out loud?)

He undeniably sets the trends for the entire Fashion Industry and paves the way for each season. Designers everywhere are being influenced by his work, and we are seeing a lot of mod-inspired looks and bold, graphic prints in the stores.

The bottom picture is an outfit that we have at my boutique (Roadkill Ranch). It’s not Louis Vuitton, but clearly inspired by. We are definitely tapping into the world of Marc Jacobs; but what else is new?

Pair your black and whites with a pop of color like emerald, yellow, or hot pink for a fresh spin on spring.

Stay Stylish!

Mod Squad

Marc (Have I told you I love you?) Jacobs is going MOD for his Spring 2013 collection. Look for bold geometrics, clean lines, stripes, chunks and blocks. He captures the ’60s fashion trend with short mini dresses and skirts, then swings the pendulum to long, sweeping maxi-dresses. I love the sharpness of the line and can’t wait to delve into spring.

Happy Tuesday!

Sneak Peek

Lady Gaga will grace the cover of Vogue magazine’s September issue. The publication is celebrating their 120 year anniversary, and Lady  is pictured wearing a purple (because purple is the new black), fishtail gown by Marc (Have I told you I love you?) Jacobs. I can’t wait to escape in the pages of this issue.

And Lady, if you’re reading this, I’m intrigued with your theatrical style. Next time you’re in town, please stop by my Roadkill Ranch Boutique (incognito of course), I have something for you.

Spot On!

The Louis Vuitton flagship store in NY finally unveiled the Yayoi Kusma collaboration. Marc Jacobs and the eccentric artist Kusama have been planning this dot obsession for over a year. Not only have they been teaming up on products, but also on the visual intensity of the store to create major impact.

The store windows and outside of the building are saturated with polka-dots. Louis Vuitton CEO Yves Carcelle say, “The number of dots is so obsessive, no one can count them.”

Kusama- the 83 year old, cult-art star showed up in a wheel chair dressed in her signature look (you guessed it- dots), while guests flocked to get a glimpse of the icon herself.

Louis Vuitton pays homage to Yayoi Kusama with a life-sized, wax model of the artist that stands proudly in the window.

The products are expected to be overnight collector’s items, so with that being said, I’ll see you in line at the nearest LV boutique.
