Ring Leader

When in doubt, wear some rings! The latest accessory craze (aside from the turban and decorative phone cases), is an above the knuckle band. Pair it with your ostentatious cocktail rings for a dramatic look or wear alone for a dainty and sweet vibe.

It’s a fresh look and a quick way to update your outfit. Just make sure to have a nice manicure if you’re going to sport the trend. (You don’t want to draw attention to your half-peeled nails.)

With that being said, ring me up!!!

PS Check the boutique next week for more shiny objects.

OC’s Avant-garde

OC Fashion Week was in March, but the pics are still rolling in. I wrote about some of the emerging designers and the dramatic styles a few weeks ago, but it really didn’t translate to my blog the way I had anticipated since none of my pictures turned out.

My photographer friend Megan Crothers was able to get some amazing shots, because, well, she’s amazing!!! So, better late then never, here’s some more great shots from OC Fashion Week. Thank you Megan Crothers for always getting it right! I can’t wait for her to take more pictures for our Roadkill Ranch site that’s coming soon.

Check out more of her brilliant photography at   http://www.meganjeannephotography.com

Avante-garde and Emerging Designers: Coral Castillo, Dan Richters, Kerrie Kordowski, Luis Valenzuela and Pravenn Sinha.

OC Fashion Week

OC Fashion week was a huge success and took place at various venues around Orange County. I had the privilege of attending and was so excited when I saw my friend, model/actress Joell Posey back stage at the “Emerging Designers” and “Avant Garde” shows. The transformation from back stage to the runway is always so enthralling.
The designs were an eclectic mix of retro and Bohemian and included such names as Luis Valenzuela, Dan Richters and Kerrie Kordowski. This year marks the third annual OC Fashion Week and the founder Julia Tudor has great expectations and higher hopes for next year. Watch out London, Paris and New York, Orange County is “HAUTE”!

Shoe Stalking

IMG_5575 IMG_5580 IMG_5581 IMG_5582  IMG_5584 IMG_5586

Hi my name is Julie Rasmussen and I’m a “Shoe Stalker”.

I look at everyone’s shoes. There I said it!

Today was the first official day of Orange County Fashion Week. Even though Heidi and I had front row seats for the event, I couldn’t help but do a little shoe stalking. My ADD kicked in and the rest is history.

I can’t decide if I like the nude sparkles or the black ankle straps better? What’s your favorite pair?

Think Pink

“Think pink, if you have to think at all!” Yes, I’m channelling one of my favorite movie scenes from “Funny Face”. After capturing a glimpse of a few of the fall collections, it’s safe to say, “think pink!”

Usually pink is a key hue for spring and summer, but this fall designers are taking the baby soft look into fall and creating major outerwear and staple pieces.

When making purchases this season, stock up on pink pieces. The longevity of the color is strong.

From top to bottom: Phillip Lim, Cédric Charlier, Miu Miu, and Louis Vuitton.

And, just in case you haven’t seen the famous magazine editor scene from the 1957 movie “Funny Face”, starring Audrey Hepburn and Fred Astaire, I’ve attached it for your viewing pleasure.

Stay stylish!

Viva Las Vegas

R.KillVLV-tix-giveaway-2013

For the past 3 years we’ve  teamed up with our friends over at Steady Clothing for a huge shopping party, and this year is no exception.

“Viva Las Vegas” is the biggest Rockabilly party in the world. It takes place every year in Las Vegas, and it’s 3 full days of fashion shows, car shows, music and entertainment that caters to the Rockabilly lifestyle. Since Roadkill Ranch & Boutique caters to the same lifestyle, we host an annual shopping party prior to the event offering the latest and greatest in styles.

This year we managed to get a pair of Viva Las Vegas tickets (thanks to Mr. Brownfield over at Steady Clothing) to raffle off. Woo Hoo!!! So come on down to Roadkill Ranch on Saturday, March 16th, for tons of style, fun and live music by Hot Rod Trio.

And thanks to Instagram, my new friend Nicolle will be at the store too with some of her awesome, one-of-a-kind hair accessories.

Save the date!

Join us on FB under Roadkill Ranch and on Instagram under Roadkill_ranch for up-to-the-minute event and style info.

Monster Monday

Hi Monday, I’m ready to kick your ass!!!

Today is the day that I get to deal with all of the “monsters” that I’ve put  off  from last month. From building issues, to website stuff, to vendors, to promotions, to buy plans, to accountant reports, this picture from Numero Magazine, is exactly how I feel.

Bring it on!

Hope everyone has a prosperous week.

Red Roses

Picture 6Picture 8Picture 10

During Thom Browne’s runway show at New York Fashion Week, everything was coming up roses. The  stage was set with a magical, winter forest scene, while male models lay strapped to metal beds donning Browne’s menswear styles and crowns of thorns. The women were dramatically dressed with a huge emphasis on red roses, blooming on everything from tights to dresses to jackets. Each model carried a fresh bunch down the catwalk and cast their bouquets on the death-like men.

Interpretation? It seems like he is putting to death his men’s line as a sacrifice to focus on his women’s collection. I noticed that none of the roses have thorns, so perhaps it’s translating into a season without curse? That’s my best shot.

According to Mr. Browne, “The inspiration was strong women, strong shoulders, strong hips. The rest was just riffs on the color red.”

Escalating Looks

Louis-vuitton-ss-2013-by-Yannis-Vlamos Louis-Vuitton-SS13-5hbz-2013-trends-1-louis-vuitton-deIMG_5145

When Marc (Have I told you I love you?) Jacobs unveiled the Louis Vuitton Spring collection in Paris last fall, it was another amazing production. The man is pure genius and is constantly outdoing each of his own shows. The models started at the top of the escalators as if they were coming down from “Fashion Heaven” onto the glassy floors of a 1960’s department store. The escalator stage was built in collaboration with artist Daniel Buren to compliment the aesthetic of the clothing.

“They are a moving pattern, a rhythm, it’s a mathematical equation.” Jacobs told reporters.

OMG! I’m in love with your mind!!! (Oops, did I say that out loud?)

He undeniably sets the trends for the entire Fashion Industry and paves the way for each season. Designers everywhere are being influenced by his work, and we are seeing a lot of mod-inspired looks and bold, graphic prints in the stores.

The bottom picture is an outfit that we have at my boutique (Roadkill Ranch). It’s not Louis Vuitton, but clearly inspired by. We are definitely tapping into the world of Marc Jacobs; but what else is new?

Pair your black and whites with a pop of color like emerald, yellow, or hot pink for a fresh spin on spring.

Stay Stylish!

Lego Lagerfeld

chanel-lego_1chanel-lego_3 chanel-lego_4

Sometimes I can’t help but play army men, Legos, cars, and everything else that comes with having a seven-year-old son. But lately, I’ve been thinking to myself that I’ve been spending too much time playing games and should probably grow up a bit. Then, Chanel came out with these Lego-inspired clutches during Paris Fashion Week, so now I’m justified!!! Woo Hoo!!!

I wonder if Karl Lagerfeld sits at home and plays with Legos too? That’s probably why they’re available in a rainbow of colors. Because every child (at heart) knows that playing with just one Lego is boring. And, that’s exactly how I’m going to justify the purchases of the green, the clear and the red. I want to build a fort!  (The army men need a place to hide.)

Happy Monday!
