Do you like dressing up? Do you like Disneyland? If you said yes to both of these questions, then  consider heading over to the “Magic Kingdom” this weekend for Dapper Day.

Dapper Day is a celebration of stepping out in style. This bi-annual event at Disneyland invites all who dare to be fashionable with a high emphasis on vintage styling. Although retro outfits are not required, all styles and designs are welcomed as long as you have the mentality of wearing your “Sunday Best”.

Roadkill Ranch has become a precursor to the events, and Rockabilly and Pinup aficionados frequent the shop during this time. It’s so great to see  well dressed ladies and gentleman stopping by for a quick style fix.

A vendor called me the other day to tell me about a best T-shirt seller that reads: “Proud Supporter of Sweatpants and Messy Hair.”   I had to politely decline. I just don’t think Roadkill customers would appreciate it. (That’s for another store and another park.) They might have better luck selling me something that says, “Always dress to kill.”

The first two pictures are outfits from Roadkill Ranch, modeled by Marlena Khamrov.

The last three are from last year’s Dapper Day.

Stay Stylish!

Mad for Plaid

I love everything about fall, the cooler weather, the warmer clothes, the hot drinks, the cozy fireplaces, the mountain getaways, pumpkin spice everything (OK maybe that’s getting old), but you get the idea, and plaid! Just as the seasons change, so do our wardrobes, and plaid is always a traditional staple. I’m not saying you can’t wear plaid during the other months, there are tons of cute gingham and light-colored combos available, but those big buffalo plaids and classic tartans just scream fall!

After viewing  some of the runway shows, I was glad to see the checkered styles with new twists. Look for high-low cuts and flounce detailing on blouses and jackets. Pair your traditional tartans with heavy studded jewelry and thick chains for a punkish vibe, or wear an all-over coat dress with short boots for a cool, indie look.

We think men look sexy in plaid too (that’s why Roadkill Ranch is the number one Pendleton distributor in Orange County)! Wear your Pendleton alone or layer with a white T-shirt for a dapper look.

The first picture is from the Chanel runway show.

The second picture is from the Tommy Hilfiger collection.

The third picture is M Missoni’s ad campaign.

The fourth picture is Sydney Beaver modeling for Roadkill Ranch & Boutique. We think our photo shoot is better than Missoni. (We’re not biased or anything.)

The last two pictures are of our stylish man friends (Matt Brady and Joshua Titus), modeling Pendleton shirts for Roadkill Ranch & Boutique.

So grab a good book, a good cup O’Joe and get cozy somewhere (in your plaid of course). Because fashion is a feeling, and you deserve to feel fab!

PS Take quick advantage of  this weather, tomorrow may be 80 degrees again (blogging from a cute leopard chair in Fullerton, California).

His Soles

IMG_0988 IMG_0989 IMG_1661 IMG_1662 IMG_1663

If you think you’re the only one that has a shoe fetish, meet my friend Brent Adams.

This guy is always dressed to the nines with the most fashionable soles to boot. It’s such a breath of fresh air to be around  fashion conscious men. I almost forgot they existed. Up until a few years ago (I finally flew away), I was constantly surrounded by wannabe gang members whose wardrobes consisted of Vans tennis shoes with tube socks, and smelly, baggy jean shorts worn below the waist so low their underwear showed. The look was usually paired with some sort of message T-shirt relating to guns, politics, or how you’d better get your life right or else you’re going to hell. Geeze! I thought I was already in hell. Oops! Did I say that out loud? Sorry, I digress.

Anyway, yes, sharp dressed men (with class) do exist in Fullerton. And they’re all on the Day of Music board of directors (with the exception of Wade and James from Lux, but that’s another blog).

Brent’s shoe collection takes the cake. Every time I see this guy he has a different pair of shoes on. And they are designer!  I’ve always admired his shoe choices, but one day the iconic (and coveted) red and green stripe he was donning hit me like a ton of bricks. “OMG!!! Are those Gucci?” I exclaimed.

“Yes.”  He replied nonchalantly as he swiftly disappeared through the front door of my shop.

Later that evening a bunch of us met at the local wine bar Vino Nostra (for vino and venting), and I decided to delve a little more into Brent’s shoe addiction (I mean hear more about his fabulous designer collection).

He admitted to owning over…hmmm…I better not divulge. He might be the type of guy who hides packages in the trunk of  his car (Alfa Romeo BTW, it’s obvious he likes Italian made) and sneaks them in when his wife isn’t there? I’m seeing her this weekend, so I better not stir anything up.

Let’s just say, including  tennis shoes, flip flops, and driving moccasins, the count is close to… shoot, I just can’t do it!  For now, we’ll just applaud his fierce style and his impeccable taste in shoes and be thankful we can all get a glimpse of a gentlemen who knows that dressing well is a form of good manners.

Remember to walk the walk (in great shoes of course)!

Freak-Shoe-Friday-Peter-Popps-Round-White-CiRCLE-Shoes

Here’s my “Freaky Friday” fashion pick of the week. Scissor handle shoes by designer Peter Popps.

Not sure where I’d wear these? Parent teacher meeting? Blind date? The grocery store? Meh!

I think they’d be good costumes for a movie about the cultivation of cut-throat fashion designers who live in an all white city underneath New York’s 5th Avenue. The evil cult leader stomps around in these ginormous scissor-like shoes slamming patterns and sketches in front of the members and demanding them to produce stylish designs. Some escape the cult through a secret glass elevator that leads to Central Park, but others are brainwashed into conforming and eventually earn scissor shoes of their own. Of course there’s some weird torture involved (like being forced to sleep in cheap, scratchy fabrics), a love triangle, and lots of robots with attitudes.

OK- it could use some developing, but it’s a start. And I’m still half asleep (I stayed up way too late last night watching Netflix), so that’s my excuse. I’m tired! Ha!

Feeling Blue

PART_1438741552017

Gucci-Spring-2015-Show-Milan-Fashion-Week

I’m feeling blue, but in a good way. Denim is my boyfriend and we’re in love.

After seeing a lot of fall collections the past few weeks, I’m excited to see the “denim on denim” look. Typically in the past, your outfit of the day (#OOTD) would consist of one denim item, but now it’s all about layering different jean washes and denim shirts with jackets to create a casual yet sophisticated look.

This industry moves so fast, I haven’t even had time to take pictures of the new jeans and indigo skirts we received yesterday. Although, I somehow managed to go thrift store shopping and purchase 20 pair of used jeans for an art project. The Roadkill Girls decided to shred denim strips and loop them through a chicken wire frame to create a back drop for our windows. We wanted to drive the message home about the importance of the excessive denim trend this season by creating texture and adding impact.

Pair your chambray top with a darker pair of jeans for a contrast look . Or, go totally tonal by wearing the same color wash of jeans, and jacket. Add some killer accessories to kick it up a notch, or play it down with a basic white T-shirt. Relaxed fit, skinny jeans, boot-cut, flairs and skirts can all be incorporated into this look.

Take your faithful boyfriend jeans and let the layering begin. It’s an easy look to achieve; it’s comfortable, playful, and lovable. Just like a good boyfriend should be. (Wink.)

The second pic is the shredded, denim backdrop the Roadkill Girls are still working on.

Creepy Cushion

Here’s my “Freaky Friday Fashion” pic of the week, the ugly furniture cushion look. It’s so attractive and hides your middle, so you don’t have to worry about over eating at your next event. Just grab any old cushion (the dirtier the better), tie it around your bodice, and you’re done! For an added feature, crush up some crackers and smash them around the buttons.

The Big Cheese

Here’s my “Freaky Friday Fashion” pic for the week. A big cheese hat.

I love the bleu vein details in the cheese, the plate element, and the dangling grape bunches. It’s brilliant!

The only thing missing is a giant glass of wine and a few crackers.

Rock the Look

tumblr_maktvrB5bK1qzkhv4o1_1280Anna+Sui+Spring+2013+Details+V6PDGO4emoJl Anna+Sui+Spring+2013+Details+znjW_q7NSIUl Anna-Sui-Spring-2013-Vail-Fucci-0791700-21

Anna Sui brings down the house again during New York Fashion Week. Her 2013 collection was an eclectic mix of Rock n’ Roll, Punk, Rockabilly and Goth inspired looks, with a splash of Pin-Up and ’80s glam. WHOA!!! That was a mouthful. I was so excited to see all of her chunky skeleton jewelry because we actually have similar pieces at Roadkill Ranch right now (yay me).

The Ramones blasted as the cat walkers took the stage with their star-studded looks. It was a concert of  plaids, florals, ripped  fishnets, chunky spikes, buckles and skulls. Every outfit was layered with a mix of good and bad like lace with leather and pretty ruffles paired with torn and shredded pieces.

So, pull out those old Doc Martins and pair them with your boho-chic maxi skirt, add a leather jacket and a big skull necklace and you’ve got the look. Or, take an old party dress, add some fishnet stockings and a denim jacket, then accessorize to the max for a badass day look.

I’m loving all of the options for spring and am slightly reliving my 1980’s glory days. Only this time around, there’s no Aqua Net hairspray  needed for the big hair look. Headbands, cat ears and sparkly pins on tame, colored hair seems to be where we’re heading.

People will always stare, so make it worth their while.

Nubrella

Picture 9

This new and improved umbrella is basically a giant, plastic bubble that protects your face, head and shoulders from the rain, and other uncomfortable weather conditions. And, with it’s patent-pending shoulder straps, there’s no need to worry about it turning inside out or blowing out of your hands with each gust of wind. In fact, it’s completely hands free, so you can still text and Instagram. Perfect!

Check out http://www.nubrella.com for more info or to order one for yourself.
