Striking Back

fashion-separate-with-comma-star-wars-starwars-Favim.com-220560tumblr_m1xrpesvtC1qi3lb2o1_1280

Here’s my “Freaky Friday Fashion” pic of the week, Star Wars inspired garb. It’s really not that freaky, it’s actually quite empowering.

I’ve been through hell and back this week and at times had wished for a real lightsaber to fight off all of my opposition. Everything from unethical people to irresponsible choices made by others that have directly affected me, to my flu-stricken little boy, I’m striking back!

Although my little one has been sick at home all week, we’ve been bonding through popsicles and all of the Star Wars movies. So, it makes perfect sense for me to put on my big girl (Star Wars) panties underneath my R2D2 skirt, and stand up to the forces of darkness. Because no empire was ever saved without a good fight, a good love story, and a good wardrobe.

May the FORCE be with you!

Instaglasses

Are you an Instagram junkie? Do you like taking pictures of everything you see and do so you can share it with the world?

Wouldn’t it be cool if you just had glasses that could upload straight to Instagram?

Well, it’s not that far from reach! German visual communications designer Markus Gerke has invented a prototype that does just that. He’s created a sunglass design that would allow you to select a filter from your glasses, push the “Insta” button to activate,  and then Voila! The pictures would be uploaded immediately.

Pure genius you say? Me too! However, these are purely fictional and are still sitting in a design room in Germany. So for now, we’ll just have to do it the “old fashioned way”, I mean the “smartphone way”.

And with that being said, check out our up-to-the-minute  pics of the boutique and a day-in-the-life of the Roadkill Girls. We love staying connected so follow us on Insatgram under “Roadkill_ranch” and we’ll follow you too.

Pendleton Pusher

In 1889 Thomas Kay started a woolen mill in Salem, Oregon. He trained his daughter Fannie in every aspect of the mills operation, and when she met her husband, Charles Pleasant Bishop, the two would become one awesome team. Bishop was a successful retailer, so did they marry their souls, they married their skills, and in 1909 Pendleton was born! The original factory is still producing goods. And the company is still family owned and run by the 6th generation.

The quality and style is unbeatable and I’m so proud to have such a legendary line at my store. Pendleton never goes out of style, and this American made classic is a staple for every man.

So, since Roadkill Ranch is the largest distributor in OC, you’ll know where to go to get yours. The factory only produces so much, and we’ve already received our holiday order which means we will not be getting any more until next year.

Why am I writing this you ask? Because every year right before the holidays, grown men come to Roadkill Ranch and start whining when their size is gone. Grown men crying over Pendleton is not a good look! So men (and women who are gifting), please don’t wait until the last minute this year. Stop in soon while the selection is healthy.

You’ll thank me later!

The Skinny

Celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe has teamed up with undergarment power house Jockey to create a new line of intimates. The items are known as Rachel’s “Major Must Haves” and will include body-slimming pieces for all shapes and sizes. Look for bikinis, thongs, shirts, slips and briefs that will hide, suck, smooth and control “certain areas”. Rachel best describes the line as, “cotton-rich comfort meets all-day curve control.”

Her label will be called “Preferred by Rachel Zoe” and is slated to hit stores like Macy’s and Kohl’s in mid October.

So remember, it’s not what’s on the outside that counts, it’s what’s on underneath that counts.

Happy “HUMP” Day!

We Heart It!

Roadkill Ranch & Boutique supports “All The Arts For All The Kids”. It’s a non-profit organization that focuses on making sure that each child in the Fullerton School District has an opportunity to be  schooled in the arts. Local artists donated their time to create art  hearts that will be auctioned off at the end of the month. Each participating venue was delivered a heart that will remain on exhibit until the auction. We weren’t sure what heart we were getting until this masterpiece by Wendy Lloyd Davies arrived.

Katherine England (the brainchild behind the program) handpicked each heart for each venue. The more we looked at it, the more we were amazed how it fit so perfectly with the store, and how it represented what the Roadkill Girls are going through at this time. We interpreted it like this: it’s flourishing, it’s blooming, the visions are strong and our roots go deep. The mix of vintage jewelry (our roots) and the eyes centered in them, indicate growing our visions.

We are a tight team and we all encourage each other to follow our dreams and grow our visions. We have some big goals for next year (our 20 years in business anniversary) and this heart is just a reminder that we are strong visionaries who are rooted and grounded and ready to flourish.

We’re not sure if that’s what the artist was thinking when she designed this, or if that’s what Katherine was thinking when she hand-picked it for us, but that’s how we see it and we love it!

Check out  All The Arts for more information.

Happy Monday!

Betsey’s Birthday Bash

During New York’s Fashion Week, Betsey Johnson ended her Spring 2013 show with her famous cartwheel and splits. Her show was a crazy, confetti-driven, hot pink bash. With daughter Lulu jumping out a life-sized cake and Cindi Lauper’s live performance of, “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”, our fearless, crimped-haired, fuchsia-loving leader knows how to party!  Not only was she celebrating her 2013 spring fashion collection, but her 70th birthday as well. Yep, that’s right, 70!!!

But wait!!! There’s more!!!  The Style Network has just signed the icon and her daughter to star in their own reality show called Betsey and Lulu. The show will feature their lives in the ever-changing fashion world, and  is due to air early next spring.

Happy Birthday Betsey, you are such an inspiration!

The Roadkill Girls love you! xoxo

Mod Squad

Marc (Have I told you I love you?) Jacobs is going MOD for his Spring 2013 collection. Look for bold geometrics, clean lines, stripes, chunks and blocks. He captures the ’60s fashion trend with short mini dresses and skirts, then swings the pendulum to long, sweeping maxi-dresses. I love the sharpness of the line and can’t wait to delve into spring.

Happy Tuesday!

Mirror Image

Here’s my “Freaky Friday Fashion” pic of the week. Finally, a design for all of the extreme narcissists out there who can’t stop looking at themselves in the mirror. All this outfit needs now is a globe hat, to represent how the world revolves around them.

Fashion-ology

Have you ever heard someone talking “fashion” and it sounded like Chinese to you? What did they mean? What’s a swiss dot? What are fatigues? Acid washed? Well, look no more. Michi Girl’s latest book, “What On Earth Are You Wearing”  is a complete glossary of fashion terms and their meanings. From A-cups to Ze bras, Michi sheds light on all of this “fashionology”. After the success of her first book “Like I Give a Frock” she was asked to give us insight on fashion-speak. Enjoy!

Designer Inspirations

It’s hard to believe that the Spring 2013 runway shows are already in full bloom and we haven’t even scratched the surface of fall 2012. It’s always interesting to see what motivates the creativity of designers and what their thought process is behind each collection. Fashion reporter, Taylor Harris, challenged some designers  to drop hints of the inspiration behind their work for 2013. Without giving too much proprietary information, they were to submit a picture and a few sentences of what we can look forward to in spring.

Picture 1: “All things bright, bold and playful.” ─ Kate Spade

Picture 2: “Decadent Splendor” ─ Jill Stuart

Picture 3: “When one door shuts, another door opens… the American dream!” ─ Alice+Olivia

Picture 4: “Anything pink, bubbly with a little sparkle” ─ Julie Rasmussen (OK- I had to put my 2 cents in and pretend that I’m a designer.)

Picture 5: “Believe in yourself and your dreams.” ─ Julie Rasmussen (OK- you caught me again!) This picture was sent to me by my dear friend and creative colleague Heidi to encourage me. And if I was a designer, I would do an entire collection around this!”

Spring should be fun next season.  And remember to be yourself and you will always be beautiful!
